Prevent Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

For many women, being pregnant is the best time of their life. It’s a time to celebrate the extraordinary event of bringing life into the world. Unfortunately, it usually comes with a whole list of uncomfortable aliments including the worries of stretch marks that won’t disappear after giving birth. As with most things, prevention is easier than trying to find a cure, so preventing stretch marks during pregnancy should be a habit that is taken up within the first trimester if not before.

The majority of people believe that the reason for stretch marks is because the skin is stretched beyond its capability and leaves tears or marks in the skin. Although this is true, there’s more to it than that.

The skin around the women’s stomach is fragile to begin with and with rapid weight gain, the lower skin layers, which are even weaker, begin to rip apart. As with any injury the body encounters, the immune system jumps into action and begins to release a variety of chemicals to fight against intruders. Dermal inflammation is notable with the initial appearance of pink, lavender or purple shades in the damaged area.

The body’s immune system many times over produces these chemicals that were meant to kill bacteria or foreign material and end up damaging healthy skin cells in the process making the wound area larger.

With any injury, the body rushes to re-connect the broken tissues with both skin cells and connective tissue cells, a substance called fibroblasts. Fibroblasts have a net-like appearance where the skin cells can fill in the wound. There needs to be a balance between the rates of replication of fibroblasts versus skin cells so that there is minimal scarring. When the fibroblasts replicate too quickly, which is many times the case in order to quickly seal the wound and protect the body, a dense network of scar tissue is created.

Stretch Mark Treatment

While pregnant, which is the only time to prevent the damage of pregnancy stretch marks, you need to be careful what type of creams you use so that your unborn child is not affected. For example, the use of synthetic steroids to curb inflammation can harm the development of your baby. A credible product that prevents stretch marks needs to strengthen the skin, reduce inflammation and remove abnormal or damaged skin tissues without dangerous chemicals.

A natural product seems to be the best solution, especially if you use a product that includes a serum that is a complete solution for both stretch marks prevention and stretch marks treatment. A wonderful discovery found that the liquid secreted from the Helix Aspersa Müller snails is saturated with antioxidants, collagen, elastin boosters, enzymes, and cell communicating ingredients that balance the deterioration of dead and/or damaged cells because of overstretching and the use of their amino-acids to construct new cells.

Because this tiny creature has the same structural elements you find in human skin (collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans), you can enjoy the same healing and renewal benefits as he does.

The Beauty of All-Natural

The molecules within the snail’s serum assures the body that it is being taken care of with the proper proteins, enzymes and nutrients necessary to quickly control bacteria or other hazardous matter. The immune system then doesn’t need to respond with its normal inflammatory over-reactions and can focus on creating healthy cells and skin.

They are also molecules that are able to protect the skin from overstretching by triggering new collagen and elastin formation and replenishing glycosaminoglycans to strengthen the skin’s structure and framework. The glycosaminoglycans are water holding molecules within the dermis that attach, hydrate and enable the tissues to withstand stressors and stretching, making the skin more flexible to withstand tearing and scarring of the deeper layers of the skin.

The serum’s enzymes dissolve and gently strip damaged cells and scar proteins. They go to work like biological scrubbers on each individual cell. They clean out the debris, open clogged pores, consume the dead material and open up the vascular system to bring new oxygen into the cells.

A stretch mark cream that uses this amazing biological ingredient can successfully prevent stretch marks in the most critical period when the skin is being stretched beyond its limits. It’s not only effective in minimizing inflammation, breaking up scar tissue and fortifying the skin but also is completely safe to use during pregnancy and when breast-feeding. With the use of this incredible gift from nature, you can eliminate the worry of stretch marks and focus your energies on the arrival of your very one little gift.

Stretch marks form during pregnancy and there is nothing you really can do about it. It is a fact that stretch marks will form if we do not take extra care of our delicate skin. However, this is what most women can not do. Stretch marks are formed because the skin stretches beyond it’s normal stretch point due to sudden weight gain. As soon as the elasticity of the skin is exceeded, the skin layer ruptures and micro bleeding occurs. The bleeding can be seen in the color of the stretch mark. It is often times a purplish red color on the scars of the outer skin.

Preventing stretch marks is always better than curing them. The earlier you start to try and prevent them, the better you will be able to get rid of them. The best option is to start using external supplements to prevent the stretch marks from forming. Here are some of the natural ways to prevent stretch marks:

Always maintain your skin moisturized. Cocoa butter, olive oil and vitamin E do a real good job at this. Mix these 3 together and apply it to your skin.

Take some wheat germ oil and massage it on your skin. This causes the elasticity of your skin to increase.

Enrich your diet with vitamin A

You can use anti stretch mark creams but be careful which ones you use as not all can be used on pregnant women.

Drink plenty of water. Maintain proper nutrition. If you lack in your nutrition, stretch marks are more likely to form.

Stretch marks sometimes form despite you taking all the preventive measures possible. In these situations you should try a natural anti stretch marks cream that helps in the formation of collagen. When collagen is formed, new skin develops quickly and your stretch marks go away. As a woman, you have probably been “blessed” with a stretch mark or two. Whether it happened during puberty, as physiological growth spurts stretched your skin beyond its tolerance, or during a previous pregnancy, stretch marks are simply a normal part of life. But if you are ready to say, “No More!”, then you need to be aware of ways to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy or other periods of dramatic weight change.

As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!” This little pearl of wisdom also applies to the prevention of stretch marks. As you probably know, removing stretch marks is not an easy process and can take months just to fade them enough so they are not quite as noticeable. There are effective stretch mark creams and lotions that do a pretty good job of repairing the damaged skin, but they can be costly and time consuming.

So, if you are concerned about developing any further stretch marks during pregnancy, try following these helpful tips. Your odds of avoiding further skin damage and scarring will be dramatically improved, and as an added bonus, the appearance your existing stretch marks may benefit too!

Establish a Skin Care Program

The first step in preventing stretch marks is to develop a routine skin care program. Don’t make your program so complicated or cumbersome that you will not stick with it. A simple plan that you will be able to follow easily on a daily basis will prove far more effective than a more elaborate routine that you will only follow on a hit and miss basis.

Moderate Your Weight Gain

Though some weight gain is natural during pregnancy, the rate at which the additional pounds are added is very important. Remember that the skin has a natural tendency to flex or stretch without damaging the skin tissue. However, sudden weight changes can stretch the skin beyond its tolerances and tearing and scarring result, also known as stretch marks. So, monitor your weight gain during your pregnancy and strive for a more moderate and even weight gain to the extent possible.

Don’t Forget to Hydrate Your Skin

The proper hydration of your skin during pregnancy is a key element of any skin care program. As pregnancy will place more tension on your skin in the abdomen, thighs and buttocks areas, your skin becomes more sensitive. You may experience sensations of itching and pressure as your skin expands. This is where the application of a high quality stretch mark cream or body lotion can not only relieve some of these symptoms, but also enhance the skins ability to expand and flex.

Massage Your Skin

This is a practice that is often overlooked but can really help with the prevention of stretch marks. Take a gentle brush or massage glove and gently massage the skin in those high risk areas, generally your abdomen and thighs. This will stimulate circulation to the skin and promote healthier and more resilient skin tissue.

Eat Right and Take Vitamins

Being as healthy as you possibly can during pregnancy has multiple benefits. Firstly and most importantly, it helps develop a strong and healthy baby. Secondly, it helps your body counter the stresses placed on it during and after your pregnancy. This also includes your skin’s health. Eating nutritional and healthy meals, complimented by a vitamin prescribed by your doctor, will help keep your skin healthy and radiant.

These five helpful skin care tips, if practiced routinely, will help prevent stretch marks during pregnancy. Obviously, there are no absolute guarantees due to the variability of skin types and conditions, but establishing a skin care program will definitely tip the odds in your favor of preventing any further stretch marks. So, don’t be afraid of pampering yourself a little, you truly deserve it!

Can Your Really Prevent Stretch Marks?

Most women are keenly aware of the ugly, discolored scarring known as stretch marks. As a matter of fact, there is an entire beauty industry centered around the removal of these unsightly skin defects. But what about stretch mark prevention?

You may be wondering if it is just a myth or whether a person can really do something to prevent stretch marks from developing. Clinical studies tend to be inconclusive in this area, but a large number of women have learned through personal experience that certain preventive actions can help minimize the risk of getting stretch marks.

These actions are detailed below and should be seriously considered by any woman that wishes to take a proactive approach in the fight against stretch marks. But first, let’s take a look at the real cause of stretch marks.

What Causes Stretch Marks?

The surface of the skin is generally fairly elastic, but when it is stretched beyond its capacity, damage can result. It is usually during periods of rapid weight gain and subsequent loss that you are at the greatest risk of developing stretch marks.

Prime examples of this weight change cycle can be identified during:

- Pregnancy
- Weight training
- Rapid weight gain and loss
- Growth spurts in teens

During these periods of physiological change, the normal production of collagen is disrupted. It should be noted that collagen is an important protein, with an essential role in providing pliability and elasticity to your skin. As a result of this disruption, the skin loses some elasticity and when stretched beyond its limits, white or red scars may appear. These scars are what are traditionally known as stretch marks.

Will a Stretch Mark Prevention Program Really Help?

Obviously, if you had a choice, you would agree that it is preferable to prevent stretch marks from developing in the first place, rather than trying to treat them after the fact. Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed method of preventing stretch marks, even though there are a number of products on the market that will make this claim. It is just not true.

The good news is that there are products that are proven effective in increasing the elasticity of the skin. It is believed that these natural creams and oils prevent stretch marks by attacking their root causes – loss of elasticity and sudden trauma through over-stretching. To increase the effectiveness of these products, it is recommended that they be used as part of an overall skin conditioning program.

Stretch Mark Prevention Tips

As Ben Franklin so aptly put; ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!’ And no truer words have been spoken regarding an approach to stretch marks and their treatment. So, to help give you a jump start with your stretch mark prevention program, a number of helpful tips are provided below:

Tip #1
If you are thinking about getting pregnant, or are presently in the mother-to-be state, try starting an exercise program. Continue this regimen throughout your pregnancy and it should help in reducing a lot of the stretch marks that may have developed naturally during the process. An exercise program works by helping you to limit your weight gain and, therefore, limit the trauma and overstretching of your affected skin. Of course, before you start any exercise program, please check with your doctor.

Tip #2
Try using natural stretch mark products that inherently have the exceptional ability to increase the skin’s elasticity. Products made with cocoa butter and other natural ingredients are your best bet. Many women who have endured pregnancy swear to the effectiveness of this method.

Tip #3
To supplement stretch mark creams and oils, you should consider using a body brush to massage the affected areas where you want to prevent stretch marks from forming. This is usually on the thighs, breasts, buttocks, and arms. This extra effort helps increase the circulation to the skin and helps the absorption of the cream into the affected area.

Tip #4
If you are on a diet, moderation is the ‘keyword’. A diet encouraging slow weight loss will minimize trauma to the skin and allow the skin to better adjust to the weight changes. This will help reduce the likelihood of stretch marks.

At the end of the day, there really is no single fail-safe method to prevent the formation of stretch marks. But a stretch mark prevention program, based on a combination of natural stretch mark products and the helpful tips provided above, should dramatically increase your odds of reducing or eliminating stretch mark development. Give it a try – you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

I am almost 19 weeks pregnant and am starting to get a few small stretch marks on my lower belly. Did any of these products work for you to prevent and reduce stretch marks during pregnancy??

If not, what did you use to help prevent and reduce stretch marks?

Bath soak to cure and prevent stretch marks?

I will honestly swear by Palmer’s Cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks. Last year when I gained 20lbs I got stretch marks like crazy on my bum and thighs. The lotion honestly faded the marks faster than letting them fade with time and now that I’m pregnant I use it religiously.

Since this is my first pregnancy I assumed that you only get stretch marks on your belly so that was the only place I used the lotion on. My belly so far at 5 months has stayed stretch mark free, but for other areas that I didn’t use the lotion like, on my boobs, thighs, and butt I have been unfortunate enough to get them everywhere!

I know that in the next couple of month of my pregnancy the stretching is going to get worse and I’m honestly going through a bottle every two weeks. Instead of going through the hassle of rubbing my entire body with lotion (which for a prego can be pretty tiring) does anyone know of any bath soaks specifically made for stretch marks?

How can i cure and/or prevent stretch marks?
